Whenever I had a gallery opening at my arts space, haven arts, I often feared no one would show up to the opening. Invariable they all were well attended and a great gathering and showing for artists. With the open format talk that I do from time to time here on Zoom I have a similar fear; will anyone have anything of interest to say, will the dialogue go crickets? Similarly my fears were unwarranted and the dialogue was dynamic, free flowing and involved several unslated eager minds chiming in.
We covered topics from intention versus spontaneity, knowability, the goal of your art making, the importance of process and how to make sense and use of the variety of social media platforms available to artists today. We all left refueled, exuberant and with minds jarred and rattled in the best of ways revisiting old ideas and engaging new ones.
Maux Kelly was there to be drawn by all that wanted to; again the question of whether the mind can open with focus on one activity while doing another in an efficient and creative way was posed softly. My answer resonates a loud yes.
