Vasil Barnova street runs from Round Garden (former Vake Square) to the Kakabadze Brothers Street. It was planned in the 1880s and originally called New Street. In 1884, it was renamed into Gunibskaya Street (in honor of the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Gunib fortress and the capture of Shamil). Initially, the entire street ran through the Vera district. After the Vake district was built up, the street was extended and in 1922 it was renamed in honor of the classic of Georgian literature Vasily Barnov (1856-1934) - he lived on this street. His real family name is Barnoveli. Vasil is the author of many psychological historical novels about the history of Georgia, which became a significant contribution to Georgian fiction.

This is one of the main Vake district streets. Architecture is mostly Soviet with occasional newer buildings.

In the building No 73 lived Simon Khechinashvili, otolaryngologist, political figure, academician of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences and of the Georgian Academy of Sciences (1996).

In the building No 74 lived Mzekala Shanidze, Soviet and Georgian linguist, Doctor of Philology, Professor, Academician of the Academy of Sciences of Georgia and Honorary Citizen of Tbilisi (2015).

In the building No 67 lived Guram Kharatishvili (გურამ ხარატიშვილი; 1934-2009). He was a Soviet and Georgian scientist in the field of mathematics and optimal control processes, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor, Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Georgian SSR. Director of the Institute of Control Systems of the Academy of Sciences of the Georgian SSR.

In the building No 64 lived Ivan Kacharava (ივანე კაჭარავა). He was a Georgian Soviet scientist and geologist. Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Georgian SSR, Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, Professor and Honored Scientist of the Georgian SSR.

In the building No 44 lived Kurdiani Family - Georgian Soviet architects and one of the son was dendrologist.

Later we turn to Zandukeli Street. It is named after Mikhail Zandukeli (მიხეილ ზანდუკელი), Georgian Soviet literary scholar, professor, Honored Scientist of the Georgian SSR. Under his editorship works of classics of Georgian literature, such as Orbeliani, Chonkadze and Gabashvili have been published. It goes down to the Academy of Science and Rustaveli Monument.

The building of the Gruzugol Trust (Academy of Science nowadays) is an administrative building built in Tbilisi in 1953 by architects Konstantin Chkheidze and Mikheil Chkhikvadze. It is magnificient and built in Stalin's Empire manner with some Moorish details.
