Video shows our visit to the beautiful gardens of Lamport Hall a stunning Grade 1 listed House in Northamptonshire England. Home of the Isham family for over 400 years, from 1560 to 1976.
The gardens are the result of 450 years love and dedication.
with features from each century, from the Elizabethan lawns created around the Hall in the 1560s to a sensational 2 acre Walled Cutting Garden full of tall perennial plants, inspired by leading designer Piet Oudolf.
Covering over 10 acres of landscaped grounds, the gardens include extensive herbaceous borders and an extraordinary line of 72 Yew trees.
Of the gardens laid out at Lamport Hall in 1655, by Gilbert Clarke, only the surrounding bank and large wrought iron gates still remain.
Sir Charles Isham the son of Mary Isham, inherited his mother’s love of gardening. He is responsible for the present day appearance with a small Italian garden and stunning rockery. This is the earliest alpine garden in England, rising like a ruin 24 feet tall. Sir Charles added world’s first garden gnomes. All the gnomes were destroyed after his death although 1 remains 'Lampy' who is now resident in the hall.
