In this video, I demonstrate how to install the Unity desktop on Arch linux. If you wish to install the Arch base with the Architect Installer, here is a link to my Architect tutorial:    • Install Arch using the Architect Installer  

Install a base Arch system with the Openbox Window manager and lightdm display manager. After booting into Openbox, install firefox and gedit with the following terminal command:

sudo pacman -S firefox gedit

Edit the pacman.conf file by entering the following into the terminal:

sudo gedit /etc/pacman.conf

Add the following repositories:

[Unity-for-Arch]
SigLevel = Never
Server = http://dl.dropbox.com/u/486665/Repos/...

[Unity-for-Arch-Extra]
SigLevel = Never
Server = http://dl.dropbox.com/u/486665/Repos/...

UPDATE REPOS WITH:

sudo pacman -Syy

Install Unity with the following command:

sudo pacman -S $ (pacman -Slq Unity-for-Arch)

HOW TO FIX THE UNITY TWEAK TOOL:


sudo -H gedit /usr/lib/python3.4/site-packages/UnityTweakTool/section/system.py
Then change the following lines so they look like:

Line 182: 'schema' : 'org.gnome.desktop.peripherals.touchpad',
Line 193: 'schema' : 'org.gnome.desktop.peripherals.touchpad',
Line 205: 'schema' : 'org.gnome.desktop.peripherals.touchpad',
Save changes, close gedit and, again in terminal:

sudo -H gedit /usr/lib/python3.4/site-packages/UnityTweakTool/section/spaghetti/gsettings.py
Change the following line to:

Line 114 (in 15.10 its line 120): touch = gnome('desktop.peripherals.touchpad')
Save and exit. UnityTweakTool should now start without problems.
