Freeze Action with HSS Flash: Take and Make Great Photography with Gavin Hoey

Photographing fast moving subjects with both flash and ambient light can lead to a blurred image. It's all down to your cameras relatively slow flash sync speed. So the trick is to use HSS (high speed sync) flash.

In this video Gavin Hoey walks you through the process of using HSS flash to freeze his BMX riding sports subject. Gavin explains how HSS flash is the key to unlocking fast, motion freezing shutter speeds and then how ISO can be used to balance the ambient light recorded.
