I’ve tested lots of snare drum heads over the years, and in this video I'm demonstrating eight of my favorites to help you find the right one for your sound.

These will all cover a wide range of musical styles and playing preferences, and are well-suited for both demanding live performances and studio recordings.

I've made an effort to give you an accurate sense of how each drum head performs. I used minimal EQ and compression, kept the mic position consistent, and also tuned each head the same using both a DrumDial and my ears.

I'm using my Sonor Kompressor Aluminium 14x5.75" snare with a medium-high tuning. And it's all recorded in the exact same position with an Earthworks DM20 condenser microphone.

Of course, there's zero muffling on the snare to help give you fairest comparison between each of the heads.
