As the U-S presidential race enters its final stretch, the two leading contenders left the capital Washington D-C for some last-minute electioneering.
Bill Clinton and Bob Dole went off on the campaign trail once again - one headed off to the American midwest, the other to meet voters in the south.
With the opinion polls still placing the Democrats in the lead, the influential "Washington Post" has rallied behind Bill Clinton.
But the newspaper claims neither of the Presidential candidates are a good enough choice to lead Americans into the 21st century.
Bob Dole gave supporters a confident thumbs-up as he left his home in Washington Wednesday morning for the last time before the election.
In the final push before the November 5th vote, Dole is expected to hit states where Clinton's lead is shaky.
The Republican candidate's first stop today was the southern state of Tennessee. He'll then go on to Louisiana and Florida.
The Dole campaign hasn't nailed down a schedule beyond that, but campaign aides say they'll be visiting states where Dole is confident he can steal the lead from President Clinton.
The Republican challenger insists his chances of winning are quote "looking better and better."
Despite Clinton's double-digit lead, Dole is predicting a comeback on polling day.
President Clinton meanwhile is making every attempt to stop Dole achieving his goal.
He's spending over one-million-dollars a day on television adverts in the final week of campaigning.
So far they seem to be paying off. The Democrats have captured several traditional Republican strongholds.
Between today and Friday Clinton will visit seven states, including Texas and California.
Clinton's campaign stops today included Michigan, Colorado and Arizona.
Clinton aides say the President will play it safe in the final days before the election and focus on issues like education and welfare reform.
The Washington Post Wednesday endorsed President Clinton, but added that both candidates had been disappointing.
The Post enthusiastically endorsed Clinton in 1992, but says because of his role on issues like a balanced budget and health care, he leaves a lot to be desired as President.
But the newspaper says Clinton is still a better choice than Republican challenger Bob Dole.
