Promotional video of the NASA Engineering and Safety Center (NESC) Academy Course for the class entitled: "Innovative Engineering Design." This was a one-week class held at Penn State and lead by NASA Astronaut Dr. Charles Camarda together with subject matter experts from NASA and faculty from Penn State, MIT, and Georgia Tech.

The problem addressed was one which NASA is currently struggling with: the design of an alternate land landing system for the Orion space capsule element of the Constellation Program (the space capsule is currently known as the Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle (MPCV). Results of this one-week study lead to a follow-on collaborative team effort with students from MIT and Penn State which designed, analyzed and tested prototypes which proved the feasibility of one of the concepts originally proposed during the course (a personal airbag system!
