rainy day: drawing, chatting, animal crossing

It's raining in Southern California, and I love the rain! Today I'm joined with rain Monchichi, and we're chatting about my cozy day at home. First, I walked in the rain to get a hot vanilla latte, then I watched the water and the waves on the beach, and I watched the puddles and the rain drops. I love how all the colors outside become more rich and vibrant in the rain. I tell a story about my love of snails, slugs and worms.

Then I paint a snail in my Midori sketchbook using Holbein acrylic gouache. It's a nice relaxing paint/draw with me with some relaxing jazz music in the background. Through my sketchbook drawing, you'll see my step-by-step process of drawing. I start with a wash of chartreuse to prime the page, then I roughly outline the silhouette of the snail. I'm doing it very loose to keep a childlike quality to the drawing. Once I've blocked in the background, I start painting details in the snail. I paint patterns like polka dots and a swirl to add some visual interest.

Next we sit down and chat a bit about my reading slump! I was on the third book of A Court of Thorns and Roses, but I'm not in the mood for it right now. I considered reading The Thursday Murder Club, but it's another series so I'm not sure I'm ready to commit to that. I started reading Slow Days Fast Company by Eve Babitz. I love her writing and her descriptions of Los Angeles, but it isn't the most cozy and rainy day vibe. So, I decided to start Before the Coffee Gets Cold (this one is a series too). The cover has the perfect aesthetic for a rainy day, it's short, and this seems like a good book that I'm in the mood for.

I relax some more by playing Animal Crossing on my switch. It calms me down, and whenever I play, I don't think about anything besides the game. I harvest my pumpkins, and I change my outfit.

We end the vlog on a montage video diary of my cozy night inside. We eat dinner, do the dishes, play with the dog, watch Love Island, and play Dominion (my favorite board game).
