In this docu-series, 30 men between the ages of 18 and 21 and from differing social backgrounds are thrown together and put through a regime that was once reputed to turn boys into men: national army service. A traditional abuse-screaming sergeant major whips the boys into shape, and those who fail to make the grade are subjected to a range of humiliating punishments, from cleaning the lavatories with a toothbrush to cutting the lawn with nail scissors! As the volunteers contend with homesickness, tension in the barracks, old-school education and the exhausting regime, they reveal their feelings in video diaries.
