Time for another “Parrot from another Place” Story

This is a rosy-faced lovebird.

They are originally from dry parts of Africa. And at some point someone thought: “oH what a nice colourful bird! Lets put it in a small cage and ship it home so I can watch it everyday!”

They where pretty popular in the US and so, after one or two open doors they started to thrive in the urban landscape of Phoenix Arizona.

Life here is so good, it’s taken the parrot species just twenty-five years to colonise almost all of the Greater Phoenix area.

They have pretty nice cactus apartments, beak-made from the local gila woodpeckers, and the human neighbours provide them with food and most importantly water!

In Africa you can find them near sources of water and here, there is always someone sprinkling their lawn.

In 40-degree heat … in the desert. people will do anything for a green lawn.

Anyway the lovebirds love it and have a little bird pool party.

But their preference for nesting sites, food and water mean the lovebirds stay in the city and don’t threaten the desert ecosystem.
