GIZ India and Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India LLP jointly organised an webinar “Perspectives on Battery Reuse and Recycling for India” on 05th October 2023. The webinar aimed to disseminate the cutting edge insights from a recent study “Battery Ecosystem: A Global Overview, Gap Analysis in Indian context, and Way Forward for Ecosystem Development” conducted under the NDC Transport Initiative for Asia (NDC-TIA) India component.

About the report:
The report “ Overview of battery recycling ecosystem: Stakeholder identification and perspective on Environment, Health & Safety aspects" (https://bit.ly/3tig0ow) provides a standard operating procedure and operational guideline for battery recycling that ensures maximum waste battery feedstock to the recycling facilities which further translates to maximum recovery of critical battery minerals. Additionally, the report outlines a framework for Environment, Health and Safety management for the retired batteries which ensures the protection of health and safety of employees and the public as well as the environment from hazards associated with the workplace. The report would serve as a useful guideline for the stakeholders in the recycling domain to establish a safe and efficient EV battery recycling ecosystem. A thorough report on examination of both the technical and economic aspects of battery reuse was conducted within the scope of the same study.

The NDC Transport Initiative for Asia (NDC-TIA) (https://bit.ly/46VfJq5) aims to facilitate a paradigm shift to zero-emission transport across Asia. The program will achieve this shift by supporting China, India, and Vietnam to develop comprehensive decarbonization strategies and solutions to implement them.This program is part of the International Climate Initiative (IKI), which is working under the leadership of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, in close cooperation with its founder, the Federal Ministry of Environment and the Federal Foreign Office.
