Описание к видео Their Decision on Cutting Alaska's Halibut Fishing Limit *UPDATE*

In my last video, I raised serious concerns about a proposal that would have reduced Alaska private, unguided halibut anglers from two fish per day to one in several regions. That proposal was real, it was submitted to the International Pacific Halibut Commission (IPHC), and it deserved attention.
Since then, the IPHC meeting has taken place — and this video is the update.
The good news:
👉 The IPHC did NOT adopt the one-fish daily limit for private boat anglers for 2026.
Instead, the Commission determined that cutting private recreational limits is a domestic allocation issue, not an international conservation decision, and referred the matter to the North Pacific Fishery Management Council.
That outcome did not happen in a vacuum.
Hundreds of anglers took the time to submit public comments, share information, and speak up for local access to this fishery. If you were one of them — thank you. Your voice mattered, and it still does.
This conversation is not over. When allocation decisions move to the Council level, they can shape long-term regulations that affect:
• Private vs charter anglers
• Resident access
• Future bag limits across multiple regions
If you fish Alaska — whether in Area 3A, Western Alaska, or anywhere else — this is something worth paying attention to.
In this video, I break down:
• What actually happened at the IPHC meeting
• Why the proposal was not passed
• What the North Pacific Fishery Management Council is
• And why staying engaged matters for the future of Alaska sport fishing
Thanks for being informed, respectful, and willing to stand up for this fishery. I’ll continue to follow this closely and keep you updated as it develops.
