The entire scenario in Rampurhat’s Bagtui village changed within hours of the murder of Rampurhat Panchayat deputy chief Bhadu Sheikh on Monday. At least 8 were killed, as per the police, on Tuesday after their houses were set ablaze. There has been confusion on the number of casualties. The State Police DG Manoj Malviya confirmed the death toll as 8 and not 10. Confirming the same, he said that 7-8 houses were set on fire. Three seriously burnt victims were rushed to the hospital late on Monday night. Out of the three, one passed away on Tuesday morning. The fire officials recovered 7 burnt bodies from 7 houses on Tuesday morning. The DG further said that it was the result of personal revenge. On the other hand, the BJP has filed a PIL in the Calcutta High Court on the Rampurhat issue.

Chaos erupted in Birbhum’s Rampurhat on Tuesday after unidentified assailants killed the Panchayat deputy chief on Monday. Fire engulfed 7-8 houses in Rampurhat on Tuesday morning. 8 burnt bodies were recovered. A huge police picketing has been deployed in the area. It is being alleged that the houses were ransacked and set on fire.

Bhadu Sheikh, the deputy chief of the Trinamool Congress or TMC controlled Barshal village panchayat in Rampurhat, Birbhum, was killed in a bomb attack on Monday evening, as per the police. He was attacked by four men who came on bikes with their faces covered. They threw crude bombs at him. Sheikh was rescued and rushed to the hospital where he was declared brought dead.
