The Hometowners - You'll Never Grow Old In My Heart ~1946

First off, let me say that there has been a new band named "The Hometowners" just about every two years since man first left caves. Finding info on this particular band in which I could only find two recordings from for certain, would be a very small needle in a very large haystack. That being said, assuming I'm on the right trail, I have at least found info on the lead singer on today's record, however I will be emailing who I believe is her son to sure up this lead and gather more info about her.

Betty Lou Harrington was born in Georgeville, Mississippi on March 11, 1913. She headed to Chicago, Illinois in 1932 and auditioned for anyone that would listen. She gave her first radio solo in 1933 and by then she had already joined the Bennett Sisters trio. By 1935, she would break away from the sisters, the agreement of which specifically allowed her to use the stage name "Betty Bennett". Over the years she was broadcast from Chicago on NBC, CBS, WGN, and WLS. She performed quite a bit with "Sunny Joe" Wolverton, however she also sang with The Hometowners (as with today's record), the Chicagoans and performed on "The Music Show". I have only been able to find two records that she performed on which may or may not be the case (sometimes performers are elusive from historical record, other times they simply stuck to broadcasting and didn't bother with recording).

I'm not entirely sure how her musical story ends aside from her passing in 2009 at the age of 96. I hope to get more details and fill in these blanks soon.

This song is called "You'll Never Grow Old In My Heart", performed by "The Hometowners" with beautiful vocals by Betty and a trio of backup singers. The recording took place January 1946.
