Thani Avarthanam | Rupaka Thaalam | Balaram Ramagiri | Arthavan Selvanathan | Thala Nadham 2023

SRJ Studio promotes Carnatic music, especially mridangam, in Brisbane (Australia). It is an initiative taken in the online space by the not-for-profit organization SRJ Rhythm Academy. Thala Nadham 2023 is our school's annual mridangam concert. This Thani Avarthanam is taken from concert's main Item, Deva Deva Kalayamithe in Mayamalavagowla Raagam set to Rupaka Thaalam (a three-beat cycle). The Thani Avarthanam consists of gradually shortening 'call and response' sections, including Thri-Kaala Korvais, standard lessons and a Khandha Koraippu (rhythmic reduction). Following this the players join for the Farans, Mohora and Korvai. The Korvai was designed to match the 'poruttham' of the chosen line in the Charanam, at Arai Edam.
