2019 Yamaha EXR WaveRunner Review – Long Haul, Ep. 36

OK you old boys; all you "nobody makes anything lightweight, fast and torquey anymore" guys – listen up! Apparently the squeaky wheel DOES get the grease, because Yamaha Motor Corp. USA has listened to your cries and lamentations and delivered a true featherweight, 2-seater runabout with great grunt and plenty of acceleration in the form of its new 2019 EXR WaveRunner. Building from its original EX platform, Yamaha hacked out 60-pounds of weight by using its NanoXcel2 bonding material – the same stuff reserved for the GP1800R, VXR and all the SVHO-powered FX WaveRunners! Then they screwed on a vicious top-loader intake grate and then installed a set-back pump for better low-end traction (ie. less cavitation). What that gives you is a fun, squirrelly runabout that you can jump, powerslide and even race like you used to (we're talking to you old school 2-stroke lovers). Priced at $9,299, it's no cheapo entry Rec-Lite machine but it is easily the most fun that we've had on the water in a long, long time. Dial up the wayback machine and transport yourself back to 1995!
