ESL 635 Sheltered Instruction & Assessment

Specifically for educators of English Language Learners (ELLs) in Sheltered English Instruction (SEI) classrooms, general education classes, and other classrooms. It explores the educational theories of first and second language acquisition and their implications for effective instruction and assessment of ELLs. The Sheltered Instructional Observation Protocol (SIOP) model of instruction explores the components of effective classroom practices in an SEI classroom in addition to Specially Designed Academic Instruction in English (SDAIE). Participants will have the opportunity to investigate, apply, incorporate, and ponder sheltered techniques and strategies throughout the course and in their own classrooms.
