PIPA SOUZA - PUSHING WITH PRIDE. A Queer Skateboarding Story

In this episode I travelled to São Paulo, Brazil’s concrete jungle where I spent a few days with Pipa Souza, a prominent figure on the local skateboarding scene and an active skater within the queer skateboarding community.

Sponsored by Baw skateboards and Goose Island, Pipa is also one of faces of the Skate Total Urbe, which is Brazil's most renowned skate contest.

During the past 18 years, she has been putting a lot of time and energy on raising awareness to the fast growing community of LGBTQIA+ skaters not just in Sao Paulo but also in other cities around the country.

In this video she opens the door of her home and I get a chance to sit down and chat about her struggles which are also the things that made her a stronger character today.

Sometimes in order to be heard you don’t always need to scream but instead convey reason, emotion and honesty in your words. This is exactly what Pipa brings to the story and I hope I managed to capture it in order to share it with you.
