Hear You Me | Jimmy Eat World (cover by Melanie Riedel)

This week you get my cover of Hear You Me by Jimmy Eat World.
This song is quite emotional for me. I wanted to do a cover of it for years and there were times when I would play and practice, but when it was time to record it I just couldn't.
Hear You Me is about two women who died in a car accident on their way home from a concert. So it's not just another stupid love song. That I changed the line “hear you me, my friends“ to “friend“ isn't in any form a way to undermine the bands message behind that song. I hear you, Jimmy Eat World.
For me personally this song gained a different meaning a while ago. It helped me after the death of one of my best friends and stuck with me since then. Now I just think of him whenever I listen to it. This is the reason I tried to record a version for said friend for years. I tried doing one in October for the anniversary of his death and then for his birthday in May. I failed year after year after year.
When May 15th passed I thought „yeah, just another fail - let's try again in October.“ But I know when fall comes I won't be able to do it again. So I recorded a month late and hope it somehow reaches out anyway.
This year will mark the 7th anniversary of his passing. Maybe there are people who know him and think that he doesn't deserve being remembered like that, because he did the things he did, or that I don't have the right to speak out about it. Maybe they are right, but he was my friend nonetheless.
Before he died I made a promise that someday I would play a concert for him. It was made in the corner where we would stand everyday after school, talking for hours, before going home. I never played for him and now I can never keep that promise. I just keep it with me. Hope you're at peace now, mate. Lübeck.
So, after having said that, I hope you guys like my version. If you do, give it a thumbs up or let me know in the comments. Stay save, stay healthy, spread love.

PS: Suicide is still one of the biggest killers of males under the age of 45, because men are more likely to be afraid to speak out about mental health issues. My friend Grace Katharina is fundraising for CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) right now. So go to her site and donate, if you can: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraisin...

Maybe instead of that you want to educate yourself further on the Black Lives Matter movement. If that's the case, you can go to https://blacklivesmatters.carrd.co/ - read, sign petitions and donate something to a fund of your choice.
