M/S of "Gripsholm" ship carrying prisoners of war to safety, they walk about on the dock. M/S of American press correspondent and former prisoner Ralf Heinzer with his family, he speaks of his experiences in Germany and gives credit to underground workers in France etc.



Various shots of nazi officers overseeing the press and newspaper content. C/U and M/S of antifascist leaflets and newspapers from the underground press. M/S of Frenchman sabotaging nazi poster. Various grainy shots of French town wrecked by the Germans, people try to get back to normal life. Various shots of the Maquis, who would not work or fight for the Germans, in training at a secret location, various shots as they take the oath of allegiance. They walk through woods and work on wooden hut, various shots as they wash their faces, sharpen knives and saw branches. M/S of one boy having his hair cut. M/S outside their camp. Various shots as water is ladled into buckets and cans. The camera pans across the men, who are not even guaranteed weapons. Various shots as they fly their flag.
