Dutch pro-Palestine student protesters arrested at Delft University of Technology

A number of Dutch pro-Palestine student protesters were arrested on Monday after they occupied a campus building at the Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), hoping to pressure the university into cutting ties with Israeli institutions.

Administrators had called the police on the protesters after they refused to leave the building by 8pm, the deadline given by the university. A pro-Palestine solidarity encampment at a different building on campus continues to operate as a hub for protest-related activities, and the university said it has dealt with other pro-Palestine protest activities in recent weeks.

Last month, a similar protest at the University of Amsterdam led to a violent intervention by the police. In recent months, pro-Palestine student protesters around the world have resorted to setting up encampments and occupying buildings to get their universities to divest from companies that are suspected of being complicit in Israel’s war on Gaza and its occupation of Palestine.
