I'm Dr. Garret Castleberry, associate professor and program director of Communication, Media, and Ethics at Mid-America Christian University.

Prior to coming to MACU, I had worked as a creative director in an advertising agency and also worked in several different capacities from event planning to group sales, videography, and basically gained lots of smaller experiences working and networking throughout communication. That ties into one of the generalities about communication degrees that we prepare for opportunities, career opportunities, in a number of different directions. Consider social media. Social media is a global tool, and we recognize the increased value and also career potential we're able to develop, helping students not only complete their digital media portfolio but also to forge a positive digital footprint as they develop a personal professional brand.

MACU is a special place because this community seeks to craft a remarkable experience for the students that engage with us. Students can expect to find some surprises and be entertained, shall we say, when taking a class with me. One of our philosophies that we utilize in the Communication, Media, and Ethics degree program is to embrace popular culture as a wide lens with which we can introduce rich aspects of theory and method into the classroom but also activities that help them forge the best possible career direction that studying this area will afford our students.
