Conversations with Commodores ... John Shoop

Growing up in Oakmont, Pennsylvania, John Shoop played quarterback in high school, and continued his football career at Sewanee: The University of the South. Shoop was a member of the Tigers football team from 1987 to 1990, starting from 1988 to 1990. Shoop served as a graduate assistant at Vanderbilt University from 1992 to 1994, where he earned a Master of Education degree from Vanderbilt's Peabody School of Education. In 1995, Shoop began his pro coaching career at age 25 with the Carolina Panthers. He continued coaching in the NFL through 2006. From 2007 – 2015, John coached at the University of North Carolina and Purdue. John shared about his experiences coaching the Commodores defense, learning his craft from Coaches Case and Reece, the not so fun times at Bell Buckle, some lessons from being such a young coach in the pros and those legendary recruiting parties!
