If you’re new to geocaching and wondering what tools and devices you actually need to get started, this video is for you. In this episode of The Hoard Hunters Adventure, I walk through the equipment I personally use when geocaching — from the basics to some handy extras — and explain what’s essential and what’s optional.

You can start geocaching for free using just your phone by creating a Geocaching account. It’s simple, easy to use, and perfect for beginners. I also talk about premium membership and whether it’s worth it once you get more into the hobby.

I then show my trusty Garmin 66SR GPS. You don’t need a GPS device to enjoy geocaching, but the accuracy is excellent and it works brilliantly in areas with poor or no mobile signal, such as woods and countryside locations.

I also cover the bags I carry, including my backpack for extra gear and my waist bag, which holds my essential tools — pens, a paper extraction tool, and a head torch for those tricky or darker cache hides.

This video is all about keeping things simple and showing that geocaching doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. Start with what you have and build your kit as you go.
