The approved project "GEYSIS TOUR" concerns Priority Axis 1: Competitiveness, Special Objective 1.1 Enhancing Entrepreneurship, of the Operational Program for Cross-Border Cooperation "Greece - Cyprus 2007-2013" of the objective "European Territorial Cooperation".
Partners of the "GEYSIS TOUR" project are:

LEAD PARTNER: Region of Crete – Regional Unit of Rethymno (Crete, Greece)

PARTNER 2: Cretan Quality Pact (Crete, Greece)

PARTNER 3: Network of Winemakers of the Prefecture of Heraklion (Crete, Greece)

PARTNER 4: Troodos Region Tourism Development and Promotion Company (Cyprus)

The general context and objectives of the project concern the area of intervention, Crete - Cyprus, where it has elements capable of developing it into a culinary tourist destination by developing a form of tourism whose main purpose is to get to know the local food culture. The goal of the cooperating partners is the development of culinary and wine tourism with important positive consequences such as:

The utilization of local materials and traditional products,
The strengthening of local production,
The enrichment and competitiveness of the tourist offer,
Strengthening local identity
Highlighting taste as a pole of attraction and growth.
Through the project, actions are promoted for the certification of the quality of local cuisine, which will lead to the strengthening of its identity. Also, through specific actions, a systematic effort is made to communicate and cooperate with agencies and entrepreneurs in the logic of information, awareness, exchange of know-how that will lead to the creation of culinary packages and culinary tourism infrastructure.

The proposed actions will work in a complementary manner at a cross-border level in order for Crete and Cyprus to develop into a Gastronomic Tourist Destination.
