Medicare is Australia's universal public health system. Its funded by the Medicare levy. The levy is a universal extra tax that applies to most, but not all, taxpayers. Its a 2% extra tax. Low incomes and ADF personnel are exempt as well as some others eg DVA pensioners etc

Medicare Levy Surcharge is a extra tax on higher (but not wealthy !!) taxpayers who dont have private health insurance. We explain how that works and what it means if you dont comply. It can be cheaper to have a compliant hospital policy than the FAMILY face extra tax.
