Melusine by Summer Mastous

Summer Mastous and Miranda July first crossed paths in 1993 at Porter College at UCSC. Twenty-five years later, in the summer of 2018, Miranda asked for a piano piece to accompany a scene in her upcoming film, Kajillionaire. Summer shared a few sketches, and Miranda shopped from our channel. She finally chose this composition from a demo with German pedal maker Hexe FX, which features a pedal named Melusine. We grew to be fond of the name's French folkloric roots that trace back to Greek mythology and it's characteristic familial drama.

Here, Summer performs "Melusine I," which is a part of a three-song suite. This video was produced to help Gina Rodriguez prepare for her role as Melanie in the film.
