Deconstructing Real Love - The Beatles (Isolated Tracks)

Описание к видео Deconstructing Real Love - The Beatles (Isolated Tracks)

This is the second part in the trilogy of Anthology songs. Stay tuned for Now and then next week! Real Love was originally written in the late 1970s during John Lennon's elongated break from recording music. The take used for the Beatles' single was one recorded in 1979 by Lennon at his Dakota residence. Interestingly enough according to this list of potential songs for John Lennon's last album Double Fantasy here: https://i.redd.it/0vxjq5db19771.jpg John did want to properly record Real Love. This version potentially having a string arrangement. Sadly however he never got the chance to see this vision out.

In January 1994 Yoko gave Paul a cassette containing Free As A Bird, Grow Old With Me, Now and Then, and Real Love. Sometime before the recording of Real Love Jeff Lynne worked on cleaning up the quality as he states, "The problem I had with ‘Real Love’ was that not only was there a 60 cycles mains hum going on, there was also a terrible amount of hiss.... We’d spend a day on it, then listen back and still find loads more things wrong. But we could magnify them, grab them and wipe them out. It didn’t have any effect on John’s voice, because we were just dealing with the air surrounding him, in between phrases. That took about a week to clean up before it was even usable and transferable to a DAT master." Real Love was recorded a year after Free As A Bird around February 1995. The recording process of Real Love was not as fun as Free As A Bird according to Paul as the song was complete not leaving a lot of room for the collaboration Free As A Bird provided. When recording the song the tape was sped up raising the key from D minor to Eflat minor. Parlogram does a really cool breakdown of the what was on the master tracks here:    • The Beatles Anthology 2 - A Deep Dive...

The song released on March 4, 1996 debuting at number 4 in the British Charts. However there was some controversy as BBC Radio 1 excluded Real Love from playing which hindered further chart performance.

I'd say out of the three songs this one has the worst quality stems, so if I get substantial improvements in the future I'll remake this one. Enjoy!
