I ended up buying Thompson's Water Sealant that I just painted on to seal up the wood. I decided not to actually paint it as I couldn't find anything that would go well with the green asphalt roof. I ended up putting a piece of chicken wire on the ground and setting the coop on top of that for the time being. I haven't decided the permanent location of where it is going to be. It really is too big and heavy to cart around like a "chicken tractor" yet it is too small to be a permanent chicken coop. I will keep you updated on the progress of my project, though!
