Alessandro Felici (1742-1772): Sonata III in c minor

"Pau NG" just informed me that I do seem to be the first to have recorded this sonata. Don't miss his channel, because he also is recording works that are quite "unknown"!

By age 14, Alessandro Felici was already well-known in his native Florence for his virtuosity on both the harpsichord and organ. In addition, he learned to play the violin. When in his 20s, he began to compose operas; his style was more “romantic” in style that that of most of his contemporaries, and they played to enthusiastic audiences in many Italian cities. Felici taught keyboard and composition at a school run by his father; their most notable student was Luigi Cherubini, who went on to become famous (Beethoven once remarked that Cherubini was the best composer in Europe – besides himself, of course!) The present sonata is one of a collection of six. Considering its quality, I was surprised that I was unable to find any previous recordings on the Internet of any of these works (but do let me know if one exists); it tempts me to record the other five as well! Unfortunately for the world of music, Felici contracted tuberculosis while still young, and died at the age of only 29. What masterpieces might this genius have composed had he lived a few decades longer?
