Deepinder Mayell: Executive Director of the ACLU of Minnesota, who provided a different perspective on First Amendment safeguards.

Witnesses including Finnish MP Päivi Räsänen , legal experts, and creatives testified about criminal prosecutions, platform fines, and alleged pressure on U.S. tech companies to remove lawful speech. Supporters of the report argued that EU actions threaten American free speech and innovation.

Democratic members characterized the hearing as a distraction, arguing the committee should focus on domestic civil liberties threats and foreign autocrats rather than European regulations. Ranking Member Jamie Raskin and other Democrats defended the EU's Digital Services Act , highlighting its focus on platform transparency and accountability over innovation-stifling, while Representative Jayapal argued that digital regulation does not inherently harm tech innovation
