Sandakphu Trek | Highest peak of West Bengal, India (Altitude 11929 ft)

Sandakphu or Sandakpur is a mountain peak in the Singalila Ridge on the border between India and Nepal (Altitude 11929 ft). It is the highest point of the ridge and the state of West Bengal, India. The peak is located at the edge of the Singalila National Park and has a small village on the summit with a few homestay.

It is an all-season trek and the view will be different, like in autumn, one can get the rhododendron throughout the trek. Oct to Dec sky will be clear best season because you will get the view of all the peaks. Try to avoid May to August rainy months.

There are several routes. most of the trekker start from either Manebhanjan / Dhotrey/ Chitrey or Kopidana

Route:
Day 01- NJP/ Bagdogra to Kopidana / Manebhanjan / Dhotrey/ Chitrey
Day 02- Trek to Tumling via Lamaydhura and Meghma village
Day 03- Tumling to Kalapokhri – right after Tumling Singalila National Park check post. Through the forest trek to Gairibas, From Garibas to around 2km gradual climb to Kaiyakatta. From Kaiyakatta around 2km to Kalipokhri
Day 04- Kalapokhri to Sandakphu via Bikey Bhanjan. From Bikey Bhanjan a bit steep climb to SandakPhu.
Day 05- Sandakphu to Sepi
Day 06 – Sepi to NJP / Bagdogra

Alternate Route:
Day 1: NJP/Siliguri to Dhotrey by car, stay overnight at Dhotrey
Day 2: Dhotrey to Gairibas, stay overnight at Gairibas
Day 3: Gairibas to Sandakphu, overnight at Sandakphu
Day 4: Sandakphu to Phalut,
Day 5: Phalut to Gorkhey,
Day 6: Gorkhey to Srikhola,
Day 7: Srikhola to Rimbik, then to NJP via Manebhanjan by jeep/car
