This is a brief video presentation to showcase my capstone poster and experience as a 3rd year Cleveland State University Occupational Therapy Doctorate Student. Acknowledgements go out to my capstone faculty advisor and content experts who provided rich knowledge and support for the success of this capstone experience.

The refugee and immigrant population is integral to the United States and a unique setting for occupational therapy practitioners (OTPs). Although oftentimes utilized interchangeably, the terms "refugee" and "immigrant" are distinct. A refugee is an individual who has fled their home country for reasons outside of their control, such as war and violence, and are unable to return as it is no longer safe to do so. An immigrant is an individual who has chosen to leave their home country in order to seek improved life outcomes. With this journey to a new country, both populations endure occupational injustices that OTPs are skilled to address.

After an appraisal of the literature, there is an overwhelming gap of support for education addressing home safety and home management for newcomers. This capstone experience aims to bridge this gap in addition to advocating for the distinct value of occupational therapy services to address the overall mental and physical health of this population.
