Folk and indie pop come together in the intimate DEMPEND-session of the talented Alix Buckinx. Buckinx writes conscious lyrics accompanied by the gentle melo-rhythmic plucking on her acoustic steel string guitar. Atop the continuous motion of the mellow strings sits the honeysweet acrobatic voice of Alix. In a soft slow explosion of literary sonics, this combination of voice and plucked arpeggio’s create an immersive landscape much like a sofa that will slowly eat you whole and sends you to a liminal space where you are left to question aspects of life you never have before. In her lyrics, Buckinx addresses personal distress and bounces the questions and ideas back to you as a listener. Emotionally, the themes vary between mental health issues, gender roles, self-love, personal and bodily insecurities, and disappointing boys spanning “two fucking albums.” Get hit in the gut and get back up reborn, all in the same 17 blissful minutes.
