Jim Cuddy & Greg Keelor talk about their similar songs ~ Songwriters' Masterclass ~ El Mocambo 2024

On September 27/24, Greg Keelor and Jim Cuddy participated in a songwriting masterclass as part of the Canadian Songwriters' Hall of Fame's Song & Score Week. They spent one hour talking (and bantering) about songwriting. Neither played or sang a single note. It was bliss.

In this segment, Miranda Mulholland asked about how sharing the same environment and seeing the same things while on the road affected their songwriting. The two have written about the same topic/event a few times, without being aware that the other person also had written a song about the same thing. Jim briefly brought up "The Opening Act" by Greg vs "I Think About You" from 2021's Many a Mile album. But the two had a deeper discussion about "Venus Rising" (Greg) and "One Light Left In Heaven" (Jim).
