Prime Minister Narendra Modi was joined by Spanish President Pedro Sanchez as the two inaugurated the joint Tata Advance Systems-Airbus facility in Vadodara. The plant will roll out its first C-295 military medium tactical transport aircraft by the end of 2026. The plant is the first private final assembly line for military aircraft in India and gives a big boost to Modi government’s ‘Make in India’ plans. Speaking at the event, the Prime Minster said its ‘Aatmanirbhar’ initiatives in the defence sector have given birth to more than 1,000 defence start-ups in the past 5-6 years and pushed defence exports up 30% in the past decade. PM Modi also expressed optimism that the vast eco-system being created for the Tata-Airbus facility will help India build its own commercial aircraft in the near future.
