⚙️ Setup Instructions
Step 1: Update your system
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y

Step 2: Install iptraf-ng package
sudo apt install iptraf-ng -y

Step 3: Run iptraf-ng with root privileges
sudo iptraf-ng

💻 iptraf-ng Menu Options Explained

Once inside, you’ll see an interactive interface. Use arrow keys to navigate.

1️⃣ IP Traffic Monitor – Shows traffic on all active interfaces with live source/destination IPs, packets, and bytes.
2️⃣ Detailed Interface Statistics – View real-time data rate (in/out), errors, dropped packets per interface.
3️⃣ Statistical Breakdowns – Analyze protocol distribution (TCP, UDP, ICMP, etc.) to see which dominates your traffic.
4️⃣ LAN Station Monitor – Track active local hosts communicating on the LAN.
5️⃣ TCP/UDP Service Statistics – View which services (like SSH, HTTP, DNS) are sending or receiving the most traffic.
6️⃣ Filters – Add filters to include/exclude specific IPs, ports, or protocols for focused monitoring.
7️⃣ Logging – Save traffic data logs for later analysis (found in /var/log/iptraf/).
8️⃣ Quit – Exit the tool safely (press q at any time).

⚡ Example Usage
Monitor eth0 traffic
sudo iptraf-ng -i eth0

Monitor all interfaces
sudo iptraf-ng -i all

Start in non-interactive mode and log output
sudo iptraf-ng -B -i eth0
