This is an orchestral piece based on a few themes I wrote on the piano as a kid. It's a dream come true for these melodies to be transformed into a soundtrack-like piece. Believe it or not, the instrument sound library is from MuseScore 4!
23 years ago, when I was a teenager, I had this idea to write an adventure story about 4 girls traveling through lands based on water, fire, air, earth, light, and dark. I had character designs, maps, the beginning of a novel, and a few fragments of what I hoped would be a soundtrack. And then Avatar: The Last Airbender came out. Anyway, the world was going to be called Kanali.
I had 4 themes for piano that I couldn't develop past 16 bars. Since I was only 13, I had no formal training in composition and I didn't know how to develop themes or how to harmonize effectively. Each theme was related by key and harmony, but otherwise didn't flow well together.
I still don't have formal training, but I'm grateful to the YouTube composers who put lessons out for free, specifically @RyanLeach and @alanbelkin9272. Because of Ryan's information on period and sentence form and Alan's counterpoint lessons, I was able to rework the themes into something coherent and harmonically pleasing.
The first theme is a mashup of everything I wrote. The second theme in the woodwinds is in its original form melodically. It was called "Song of Peace" and I wrote it a few days after September 11th as a way to process. I reharmonized it with the counterpoint I learned on Alan's channel.
The third theme is a reworking of The Legend of Kanali theme (not the same as my Last Legend - To Kanali) and I based the percussion on Kingdom Dance from Tangled.

📼 *How I Made the Video on Mac with no third-party plug-ins*:
-Logic Pro X
-iMovie
-Large stock image
Logic Pro X
1. Add the MultiMeter Plug-In to the Stereo Out track (Metering/MultiMeter). Use the Analyzer tab.
2. Turn on Screen Recorder (Command+Shift+5). Consider using the Microphone to help line up the music and the image. (I didn't for this one, but I think I matched it ok).
3. With the MultiMeter open and your track set to the beginning, hit spacebar to start the piece. Keep everything off the screen. Don't go to another window, don't use the volume or brightness buttons.
4. When the track is completed, save the video. It will save to your Desktop like a screenshot.
5. If you haven't already, create an audio file of your track to import to iMovie.
iMovie
1. Import the MultiMeter video, your audio file, and your stock image. (I suggest avoiding a movie or motion image because it might make your viewer get motion sickness.)
2. Put the stock image into the editor first and extend it for the entire length of the music. You can make this more exact later.
3. Put in the audio file attached to the picture instead of the music track section. It's easier to line up with the video overlay. You will see a green handle pointing up.
4. Attach your video to the image by dragging it above the image (it should create another video track above the image, not replace the image). There will be a blue handle pointing down.
5. On the video, use Crop to Fill to pick the part of the video with the Analyzer. Find a loud part of the song and crop so that the bars hit the top of the screen. This will crop some of the lower bass and upper treble. You can adjust to your liking though. Try to leave off the numbers on the left and bottom edges.
6. Use the Sci-Fi Filter.
7. Pick Blue/Green Screen on the video overlay settings. I used medium softness.
8. On the image, use the Crop feature to move it around according to your preferences. I put my subject where the bars tend to be the highest most frequently.
9. At this point, make sure your audio lines up. If you used a microphone, you will likely be able to line up the waveforms. When you are done, mute the Analyzer video.
10. Finally, adjust to your liking.
