Just when you thought it was time to catch your breath, you’ll find yourself on May’s beautiful chessboard – including living hostile pieces. It helps if your familiar with the allowed chess moves, because the enemy’s chess pieces almost attack in the same direction as in a real chess game.

You can only do damage to the King and Queen, so stay close to those two pieces. All the other pieces perform attacks you’ll have to evade. I’ll just handle all of them individually so you’ll have a good idea what to expect. Firstly the King can only move one square horizontally, vertically or diagonally, put does a ground pound which hits the surrounding squares. The Queen can move any number of vacant squares diagonally, horizontally or vertically.

Pawns in this fight do damage to the 8 squares surrounding them. Rooks launch an attack in all four diagonal directions. The Bishops in this game act a little different than in regular chess, and charge together in a straight line. You’ll just have to make sure your in the lane without any Bishop. Finally the Rook divides the chess board in small islands by removing four straight lines of square and replacing them with lava filled trenches.

It’s really a game of evading all the attacks and focusing on doing damage to the King and Queen. This fight can become a little bit hectic in the latter half, so just make sure at least one of you stays alive. Keep attack the royal couple and you’ll be off this chess board in no time!
