The investigation and identification of victims continue following a fire that resulted in around 40 deaths and over 100 injuries at a bar in the Swiss ski resort of Crans-Montana on New Year's night. The Italian Ambassador to Switzerland, Gian Lorenzo Cornado, stated that 47 people had died, though Swiss authorities have not yet confirmed this figure. Significant resources are being deployed to identify victims and return their bodies to their families as quickly as possible, according to Beatrice Pilloud, the prosecutor general of the canton of Valais. A crisis center has been set up at the Crans-Montana conference center to assist and guide affected families. The investigation will also focus on determining if all safety standards were met, including the adequacy of emergency exits and building regulations compliance prior to the event.
