How do you make amazing vegan spaghetti and meatballs? Well, hold on to your pea protein and coconut oil, because these "meat balls" will have you trying to convert your carnivorous friends.

Today we're testing Beyond Meat as well as Lifelight meat substitutes. These vegan meatballs are made exactly the same so I could see which one was better.

The vegan meatball recipe
1/4 C (60 ml) sautéed onions
4 cloves of roasted garlic
1/4 tsp (1.25 ml) Italian seasoning
1 TBS (15 ml) fresh basil
1 TBS (15 ml) ground flax seed

These vegan meatballs are using flax seed to hold them together in lieu of eggs, and the fresh basil brightens everything up. Seriously delicious.

The marinara sauce
2 cans (857 ml) stewed tomatoes
1/2 diced onion [or omit if you're a purist]
1/2 tsp (2.5 ml) Italian seasoning
1/2 (88 ml) can tomato paste
Rosemary sprig
7.5 oz (221 ml) water

This marinara is perfect with the vegan meatballs, actually, it really ties the flavors together. Enjoy it with your choice of pasta (I happened to use spaghetti, but that’s what I had in the cupboard). Have you tried it with edamame noodles? They’re delicious!
