ঝিনাইদহের কালীগঞ্জের ছয় নম্বর ত্রিলোচনপুর ইউনিয়নের চেয়ারম্যান পদে নির্বাচিত হয়েছেন তৃতীয় লিঙ্গের নজরুল ইসলাম ঋতু।
বাংলাদেশে এই প্রথম তৃতীয় লিঙ্গের কোন ব্যক্তি চেয়ারম্যান নির্বাচিত হলেন। যিনি স্থানীয়দের মাঝে ঋতু হিজড়া নামে পরিচিত।
কালীগঞ্জের নির্বাচন কর্মকর্তা আলমগির হোসেন সোমবার এই খবর নিশ্চিত করেছেন।
রবিবার তৃতীয় ধাপের ইউনিয়ন পরিষদ নির্বাচনে সেখানকার নৌকা প্রতীকের আওয়ামী লীগ মনোনীত প্রার্থী নজরুল ইসলাম সানাকে পরাজিত করেন তিনি। যা নিয়ে এলাকায় রীতিমত চাঞ্চল্যের সৃষ্টি হয়েছে।
এর মধ্যে ছয় নম্বর ত্রিলোচনপুর ইউনিয়নে প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বিতা করেছেন তিন জন।
সেখানেই নজরুল ইসলাম ঋতু 'আনারস' প্রতীক নিয়ে স্বতন্ত্র প্রার্থী হিসেবে দাঁড়ান।
ওই ইউনিয়নে মোট ভোটার সংখ্যা ১৯ হাজার ছয়শ বলে জানিয়েছেন মি. হোসেন। এর মধ্যে ভোটে অংশ নিয়েছেন অন্তত ৭৫% ভোটার।
