On the beach we recommend the 28cm (11") coil, it offers good coverage and a good compromise between weight / performance / stability on a wet beach where iron pollution is generally quite low.
On electrically conductive terrain such as beaches saturated with seawater, FMF® will not generate the instabilities of a single-frequency detector and will therefore be able to detect deeper with much greater stability.
