24GB Tesla GPU for Video Editors

Описание к видео 24GB Tesla GPU for Video Editors

Can the Nvidia Tesla K80 work in Davinci Resolve Studio? Yes. But how well? Less than the RTX 3060 12GB.

Black magic design built new FXs for davinci resolve 17 from the ground up. these new FX require CUDA 7 and above. The tesla k80 and k40 were built on CUDA 3.2
So davinci resolve 17 dropped support for Kepler architecture and any earlier architectures to keep DR17 from being bloated. Davinci resolve 17 would crash when they added the new FX to the time line. To keep customers from being frustrated, they decided to drop compatibility completely. This prevents confusion, instability, and frustration.

Davinci Resolve 16 recognizes the kepler tesla k80 and it ought to recognize the k40. I haven’t tested it myself. They are the safe processor so it should just pop up fine.

Motherboard: Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Master

You can get 24GB of Vram on ebay for about $100. Is it worth it? The Nvidia Tesla k80 Dual GPU has 12GB of VRAM per GPU.

The TLDR is “this card is a beast, don’t waste your time or money.”

Nvidia just announced a $350 RTX 3060 with 12GB of vram. It has 50% more performance than the k80, decode and encode acceleration; as well as ray tracing acceleration in case your work flow includes RT cores. I personally could really use RTX voice.

Let’s go over the problems you’ll need to solve before this GPU will work in your system.

These obstacles are; Installation of mounting hardware, Power, Cooling, a Second gpu for your display, GPU Drivers, and Stability. After you have overcome all these obstacles then we can see if this GPU is Compatible with Davinci Resolve and how well it performs.

3/27/21 Update:
Topaz Labs software does not support the k80.

2/9/21 Update:
The k80 is built on cuda 3.2 architecture. DRS17 effects such as magic mask cannot run on anything before cuda 7. To cut bloat and keep video editors from being confused as to why their GPU works with some FX but not others, they just cut support entirely. Also, Solidworks 2021 has a similar story. That is why we won’t see the k80 supported by developers in the future. This is truly a bandaid in my system. As soon as I can purchase a 3090, I will replace the k80.

2/8/21 Update:
Installed DRS17 beta 8. Still no support for the k80.

2/5/21: I’m currently Rendering a super scaled 1080p video up to 2160p in Davinci resolve studio. Both k80 gpus are pegged at 100% and have been for the past few hours.
The card’s heat sink has long since reached its thermal capacity and doesn’t have enough air flow to keep it from thermal throttling the card.
We are currently sitting at 800Mhz clock and 91 degrees on the rear GPU and 86 degrees on the front GPU.
Render time remaining is 6 hours and counting. I think this render will fail.

2/6/21 Update: it completed! It took 6 hours to complete. I had to get a box fan and point it directly at the k80.
