Our documentary examining child hunger and poverty in America tightly aligns with the mission of Foundation of Joy, to use art to raise awareness of issues facing children.

Today, one in five children in America live in families that aren't able to provide them with sufficient food. Children, our future, make up an astounding 45% of food stamp recipients. And the United States' child poverty rate is the second highest among 35 developed nations; only Romania is worse.

We were shocked when we learned these statistics and felt we needed to find the story behind them, seek the truth faced by so many American families and children, and provide solutions for a situation that does not bode well for America's future.

By following both families and advocates for the poor and hungry, this film will explore why working families in America are unable to feed their children, and what are the solutions to address this problem. The video clip gives you a taste of the issues and the people we will be portraying.

This documentary is being directed by award-winning filmmaker and Harvard graduate, Gina Levy. Her video work for The New York Times was part of the 2011 Pulitzer prize winning series "Above the Law" which examined corruption and abuse of power in Russia. Her documentary "Foo-Foo Dust" which explored drug addiction, won numerous awards, played at Sundance Film Festival and was short-listed for an Academy Award. Gina's commercial work includes a six-spot campaign on marriage equality and a three-spot campaign on foster/adoption,which won a Silver Telly award. We are excited to have her lead this effort.
