(26 Mar 2020) The government in Pakistan's Sindh province started distributing essential food items on Thursday to needy people amid the new virus outbreak, in collaboration with other welfare organisations.
The Saylani Trust is one of the main welfare organisations distributing free food to needy people in various parts of Karachi with the city in lockdown.
The number of confirmed cases in Pakistan was almost 1,100 on Thursday, after more cases were reported in Balochistan, Sindh, Punjab and Islamabad.
Worldwide, the death toll climbed past 22,000, according to a running count kept by Johns Hopkins University.
For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks.
For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia and death. The vast majority of people recover.
