Hi, this is Himanshu Palliwal. I’ve been a part of the Misfits community for over a year now, having joined around the 12th of March, 2024. My journey with Misfits has been nothing short of transformative. I first came across the community through a video of Naman Sir. That sparked my curiosity, and I decided to join Misfits to explore what was new and unique in the UPSC preparation space. Since then, I have never looked back. Over time, I have genuinely evolved—not just in terms of academic knowledge, but as a person. I’ve developed a more multidimensional way of thinking and started viewing the world through various lenses—be it political, economic, or social.
What makes Misfits stand out is that it's not limited to rote learning or just ticking off the UPSC syllabus. It goes far beyond that—it focuses on transforming you into a more aware, responsible citizen and a better human being. If I had to sum up my Misfits experience in one word, I would say it has made me more humble. You start to appreciate the success of others without jealousy, and instead of seeing others as competitors, you begin to learn from them—what they did differently, and how you can grow by observing them.
If I ever reach LBSNAA, as I hope to one day, I know I’ll deeply miss being a part of Misfits. It feels like a second home. Even as a part of the recorded community, watching Naman Sir daily on screen made it feel like a personal interaction. There’s a warmth and familiarity in the way he teaches, and I’ve even been scolded during live classes—which, strangely enough, I’ll miss too. Those moments, those learnings, and the people I interacted with during this journey have helped me grow immensely. I’m not sure what kind of people I’ll meet in the future, but the ones I’ve met through Misfits have been truly amazing.
Before Misfits, I used to think of UPSC as just another exam—you study the syllabus, revise, and attempt it. But after joining, I’ve come to understand that it’s much more than academic excellence. It’s also about your behavior, your thought process, how open or rigid you are in your political and religious views, and how you carry yourself as an individual. Misfits helped me grow in all these aspects.
Among the subjects, my favorites have always been polity and economics, which is why I chose Political Science and International Relations as my optional. I especially enjoy the episodes from the political science series—particularly the ones in the male group. I’ve always admired those thinkers deeply, and no other political philosopher, for me, comes close in comparison.
To anyone who is just joining Misfits, I would say this: keep your eyes and ears open. Truly listen to what is being taught. Be honest with yourself—don’t lie, especially to yourself. You might try to deceive others, even Naman Sir, but deep down, you’ll always know. So be true, work diligently, and see where life takes you.
