A serious aviation incident has unfolded in Central Africa. 🇨🇩✈️
An Airjet Angola Embraer ERJ-145 has been destroyed in a runway excursion and post-landing fire in the Democratic Republic of the Congo — an accident that could have ended far worse.

On November 17th, 2025, the aircraft, operating Flight MBC-100 from Lubumbashi to Kolwezi, veered off the runway during landing and came to rest on its belly, where a fire erupted from the rear fuselage, ultimately consuming the aircraft.

Aboard the flight were around 20 passengers, including DR Congo’s Minister of Mines and a ministerial delegation traveling to Kolwezi.
In an extraordinary outcome, every passenger and crew member survived and escaped before flames overtook the airframe. 🙏🔥

The timing of the accident added to the tension in the region — the delegation was en route following a tragic mining disaster days earlier. Kolwezi, a vital mining hub, relies heavily on safe regional air transport, making this incident especially troubling for local operations.

Authorities in the DRC have launched a full investigation into the runway excursion, the sequence of events leading to the fire, and any contributing operational or weather factors.
For now, the airframe — Embraer ERJ-145, registration D2-AJB — has been written off, marking a dramatic and chaotic end to this particular aircraft’s service life.
