I've also seen people use Windex, but I've always used rubbing alcohol. A Q-tip would probably work better, but I wouldn't use anything like a towel, as that could scratch the lens. If this does not work, the laser lens either needs to be recalibrated, or there's a scratch on the lens. Either of those problems are still fixable... But it's a lot more work than cleaning the lens off.
